The Pousada is named after an indigenous tree, the Vinhatico, a protected species of the Laurisilva Forest (very similar to Mahogany) whose wood was used in earlier times to produce furniture for many homes. The Pousada dos Vinháticos is privileged to be entirely decorated with furnishings of this wood, which have been here since its opening. The main house was built in 1933 and served as a family residence. Later in 1933, it opened its doors to the public, offering local travellers three bedrooms and a Restaurant ( which served home-made meals consisting mainly of meat or chicken) hereby becoming the fist Pousada of Portugal. |
